Karen is registered with the General Osteopathic Council and also holds qualifications
in Sports Massage and Medical Acupuncture.
Karen has been practicing osteopathy in the Greenwich and North Kent area since qualifying
in 2015, and prior to this had been working as a Sports Massage Therapist. She has a calm
and reassuring approach and makes every effort to make people feel at ease. An initial
appointment lasts at least an hour which she believes is essential to get to know her
patients and take the time to explain everything. Along with her desire to get patients out of
pain, she helps with pain management and likes to educate and help people to
understand their body.
Karen graduated from the British School of Osteopathy with a Masters Degree (M.Ost),
winning the R K Hardy prize for her dissertation on the working relationships between
osteopaths and physiotherapists. She has worked both within the NHS and in private
osteopathy clinics, gaining experience in treating a wide range of conditions from low back
pain, to neck and shoulder issues, sports injuries, headaches and pregnancy/post-natal
Karen’s journey into osteopathy began through her interest in running and exercise and a
desire to learn more about the human body. Leaving an enjoyable career in travel marketing
behind, Karen loves the endless learning that osteopathy provides and, of course, seeing
people recover from many long-standing pain issues. She undertakes a minimum of 30
hours of professional development per year and keeps up to date with current evidence-
based practice which she incorporates into her treatment.
Osteopathy is a primary healthcare profession, and is a system of assessment, diagnosis and
treatment of conditions relating to the musculoskeletal system anywhere in the body. It is
based on the principal that the body has its own ability to heal, and therefore treatment
aims to assist this process and remove any barriers to recovery. By releasing restrictions
within joints, ligaments, muscles, tendons and fascia, there is a positive effect on the flow of
blood, lymph and nerves and the body can function at its optimum. The patient-centred
approach to health and well-being means that symptoms are considered in the context of
the patient’s full medical history, as well as their lifestyle and personal circumstances. This
holistic approach ensures that all treatment is tailored to the individual patient. Osteopathy
is also effective in managing painful conditions such as osteoarthritis.
Techniques may consist of massage, stretching, joint mobilisation and other gentle
movements of the body. Together we will look at your lifestyle, habits, posture and Karen
will normally prescribe manageable exercises for you to do at home.
Sports/deep tissue massage treatments:
Karen also offers massage treatments for anyone with a pre-diagnosed condition or if you are
looking to address muscle stiffness/tension due to posture, deskwork, pregnancy or sports.
