Professional expertise: England Athletics Leader in Running Fitness, Mental health champion for Greenwich Runners
I started my running journey in 2015 with the Greenwich Runners 0-5k course, and after just seven weeks I was able to run 5km without stopping. I then joined the Saturday run club and made wonderful new friends. My first marathon in London was a year after my beginners’ course and I loved every minute. I’m not fast – I firmly believe in the Greenwich Runners motto – ‘Find Your Own Pace’. I love endurance running. You’ve got to have fitness of course (and decent snacks), but finishing a long race has a lot to do with mental toughness. I’ve completed a marathon each year since joining the Greenwich Runners and one Ultra marathon in 2019. My last race (my favourite – BeachyHead Marathon) took over nine hours due to an injury, but it didn’t matter – everyone gets the same medal and it’s great to take in the scenery and meet new people. I became a coach in 2018 and I’m a mental health champion for the club. My favourite part of the role is leading our monthly Run and Talk sessions and helping beginners grow in confidence as runners, building up to longer distances.
