I have been practising Pilates for 8 years, and trained with Body Control Pilates in 2007. I am qualified in teaching Pilates for pregnancy, intermediate matwork and love to use equipment such as the band, small ball and toning circle in my classes to add an extra dimension to the exercises. I have always had a great interest in movement and how fitness can greatly affect your wellbeing, and have experienced first hand the true benefits that Pilates has to offer for body and mind.

Before training as Pilates teacher I was Managing Editor at a book publisher in London, scrunched up over a desk every day. I empathise fully with the hectic lives we all lead, so my mission in class is always to offer a respite from outside challenges, to make quality time for you and the overall health of body and mind. My teaching style combines all elements and aspects of Pilates from gentle to challenging, adapting them to suit your ability and needs, and encouraging you to learn to apply the principles in everyday life and movement.

As well as practising Pilates, I like to keep active with running, cycling and swimming and on June 6th 2009, I competed in my first triathlon!

I have been practicing Pilates since 2000, initially to aid recovery from a minor back injury. I began training with Chris Hocking, founder of Pilates Based Body Awareness (who was trained by Alan Herdman). After my first class I could understand the benefits I would gain from Pilates. Within six weeks of regularly attending class and doing daily home practice I was able to sleep on my back without pain - something I hadn't been able to do for the previous nine months.

I originally trained as an actress at the London Academy of Performing Arts. The next fifteen years were spent working in the Arts; everything from performing, running children's theatre workshops to artist management. A long held interest in holistic therapies led me to study Indian Head Massage at the Institute of Traditional Herbal Medicine and Aromatherapy in London.

Combining a performance background with bodywork training has enabled me to develop a comprehensive understanding of human movement. To continue to deepen my knowledge, I regularly attend conferences and workshops. Recent training has included a specialist development day on Pilates and Osteoporosis. I teach matwork from beginners through to intermediate level and am also qualified to teach Pre and Post Natal Pilates.

My background lies in the dance world, practicing Ballet and Jazz for fifteen years. It was during my studies at university, pursuing my other passions within the art world, that I found Pilates. Like so many people, I took to it straight away and haven't looked back. I'm extremely passionate about the benefits Pilates has to offer you in your body as well as your state of mind.

I realised that, although I was never going to become the Ballerina I once dreamt of, Pilates was a very real possibility for me to pursue as a career. This is the true beauty of Pilates, it's accessible to anyone and everyone... I'm thrilled to be a qualified Body Control Pilates Instructor as of 2009 so that I can offer forward the benefits I've felt so strongly.

Along with Pilates I continue to enjoy dance as well as the arts. I have many plans to further my training and hope to expand my knowledge of how the body works by studying Sports and Remedial Massage in the not to distant future!

Finally I am a member of the Body Control Pilates Association (BCPA) and The Register of Exercise Professionals (REP's) Level 3.

The Body Control Pilates Method has evolved from the work of Joseph Pilates. We have created a repertoire of exercises – many unique to our approach – that teach the movement skills needed to gain maximum benefit from Pilates, whether on mat or machine.

The Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) has been set up to help safeguard and to promote the health and interests of people who are using the services of exercise and fitness instructors, teachers and trainers. The Register uses a process of self-regulation that recognises industry-based qualifications, practical competency, and requires fitness professionals to work within a Code of Ethical Practice. Members of the Register are given a card and registration certificate to prove their qualification and membership.
Also known as the Exercise Register it operates in the UK and across the world to recognise personal achievement and competencies of qualified fitness professionals.
